Have you heard of Batik Wood, or ever wondered how traditional batik techniques can be applied beyond fabric?

Batik Wood is a traditional Indonesian art form that uses classic Javanese batik techniques that hot wax and dyes on carved wooden objects such as bowls, jewelry boxes, ornaments, and sculptures.

In this workshop, you will learn how to create Batik Tulis on wood using a tjanting tool to apply hot wax. You will then explore coloring and dyeing techniques specially adapted for wood. After the workshop, we will remove the wax and apply a protective clear finish to help preserve the colors and protect the wood.

No experience is needed. This workshop is open to all levels, including beginners.

If you have taken our Intro to Batik Painting workshop before, you may already be familiar with waxing on fabric. Waxing on wood is a completely different experience! The surface, texture, and wax flow create a new way to explore batik.
