  • What is Batik?
Batik is a traditional Southeast Asian technique for dying textiles to create beautiful garments that are also works of art. The process involves applying wax to cloth, then dying the space between the wax. The wax "resists" the dye, allowing the artist to literally draw on fabric. Once washed properly, the dye can hold its vibrant color and the piece can be displayed or turned into a scarf, shirt, blouse, or dress you can wear! At Iridescent Batik Studio, we teach this cultural art of hand-dyed batik using traditional methods and tools. Our studio is dedicated to preserving the art of batik and bringing color and joy to everyone through this beautiful and ancient art.
  • Is it easy?
Yes! Anyone can learn batik! We provide all the tools and knowledge to apply the wax and paint the fabric using brushes and water-based dyes. Check out our Student Gallery for the fabulous art created by our students - many of them experiencing batik for the first time.
  • What services do you offer?
We offer a regular schedule of 4 hour introductory Batik workshops multiple times a month. In addition, we often have "special" workshops focused on creating specific items or with a specific inspiration - like our tote bag and mandala workshops. All workshops are small groups, up to 12 people with a single instructor. If you're interested in a private lesson or a special event like corporate team building or a wedding please don't hesitate to reach out to us on Instagram, Facebook, or iridescent.batikstudio@gmail.com.
