Our Story
Iridescent Batik Studio was founded by Voonbin Leow, a textile designer, in 2024. Voonbin's style emphasizes the bright colors and multicultural patterns of her native Malaysia. She believes that color can bring happiness and joy to life and even heal people emotionally. Her goal is to apply her imagination and inspiration to allow others to see the dance of color and patterns and spark the joy within themselves.
About Batik
Originating from the island of Java, Batik is a traditional fabric dyeing technique using a tool called tjanting (canting) or a tjap printing block (cap) to apply hot wax in elaborate patterns. The wax serves as a barrier, preventing dye from reaching certain areas of the fabric. Celebrated for its artistic and cultural significance, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia, Batik adorns traditional attire and plays a role in various ceremonial contexts. It is recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
